Pattrick Smellie - Owner, Content Ltd

Pattrick Smellie is a Wellington-based journalist, and co-owner of Content Ltd, a journalism and content wholesaler.

He has a 28-year background in journalism for major New Zealand and Australian titles, including The Australian, Australian Financial Review, TIME magazine (Pacific edition), and the Sunday Star-Times (NZ).

He has worked both sides of the fence, as both a journalist and communications adviser.  He cut his teeth on issues and crisis management as a press secretary for New Zealand's reformist Finance Minister Roger Douglas from 1985 - 88 - a period of transforming economic change in New Zealand, before spending 11 years in the Parliamentary Press Gallery in Wellington, two of those years as Gallery chair.

Between 2001 and 2008, he worked in corporate communications for major New Zealand entities including The University of Auckland, Fonterra, James Hardie Industries, and Contact Energy Ltd, New Zealand's second-largest listed public company, where he managed communications and then brand strategy.

Content Ltd was formed in mid-2008. Its main product is the BusinessDesk daily business news service, purchasable through and supplied to the APNZ wire service (NZ Herald and affiliate newspapers and websites), Australian Associated Press, the National Business Review, TVNZ, NZX Newsroom, Business.Scoop, Sharechat, and others.

In 2013, Pattrick also took a majority shareholding in The Hugo Group, a news and information service for chief executives.
